Former Chelsea ace Joe Cole has claimed the current atmosphere is the worst he’s seen at Stamford Bridge as the Blues continue to struggle.

The Blues continued their poor form as they slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Legia Warsaw on Thursday night although they advanced to the semi finals of the Conference League 4-2 on aggregate.

It appears the fans have reached boiling point in regards to Enzo Maresca and the style of play and things are in danger of becoming more toxic than they currently are.

Cole claims atmosphere is worst he’s experienced at Chelsea

Maresca has called on the fans for their support multiple times this season, but he took the unusual decision to blame them for the second goal conceded against Ipswich last weekend.

A number of supporters have made up their minds on the Italian and want a change in the dugout next season, and with the football that’s been served up since Christmas you can’t exactly blame them.

Maresca believes his stye of football is the right one, but fans have become increasingly vocal about the playing out from the back, and the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge has been a real issue this season.

Former Blue Cole has gone as far as saying he feels the atmosphere is the worst he’s even seen at Stamford Bridge.

“I’ve been going to Chelsea since I was a boy. I played at the club, and now my boys go. I don’t think I’ve seen the atmosphere as bad as it is. It’s really bad.,” he told The Dressing Room Podcast.

The only way Maresca is going to get the fans back on side and to change the atmosphere is by getting results on the pitch.

There’s six league games left and Chelsea sit just a point outside Champions League qualification, but given the run-in and current form it’s likely the Blues could miss out for a third consecutive season.
