Despite Bayern’s pre-match favoritism, Inter toppled the record-time Bundesliga champions on their home turf last week.

Indeed, a 2-1 first-leg win in Munich brought the Nerazzurri to the brink of another Champions League semi-final appearance.

However, Lautaro Martinez and his teammates must not underestimate the magnitude of the task tonight.

Tough wounded, Vincent Kompany’s men are still among Europe’s fiercest competitors.

Several high-profile absences undermined Bayern’s lofty ambitions in the first leg.

Yet, they’ll take the San Siro pitch heavily motivated to turn this tie on its head.

Aware of Bayern’s strength, Simone Inzaghi urged his Inter side to be ‘smart.’

“It’s an exciting quarter-final to play against a great team,’ Inzaghi stated. “The first half ended in Munich and we have a small advantage.

“Now the second leg will be at San Siro, in front of our fans.

“We shouldn’t focus on the result, because it will be a completely new match.

“But we must remember the performance – what we did in Munich was something important.”

Meanwhile, Inzaghi knows that semi-final qualification is not a foregone conclusion.

“We took the measure of Bayern, but they’re an extremely dangerous opponent.

“We know it’ll take a great match with very few mistakes because they are of the highest quality.

“It’s a great moment – it’s April 15 and we’re still fighting on all fronts, which is a huge source of pride for me, the staff, and the players.

“That was our goal.

“We know it’s demanding, especially with this new Champions League format, which has caused a few more injuries.”

Finally, he addressed the growing treble-related optimism among the fans.

“We’re ambitious – the players, the club, all of us,” Inzaghi added. “We’re doing something important, while also keeping the books and management in mind.

“The directors deserve credit for being close to us and always full of ideas.

“More ideas than money? Ideas are crucial – you need to be the smartest, not necessarily the strongest.”
