Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez says that he takes “responsibility” for his team’s disappointing derby loss to AC Milan.

The 27-year-old spoke to DAZN, via FCInterNews, after the 2-1 Serie A loss.

Inter’s sequence of six wins in the derby came to a screeching halt.

The Nerazzurri lost 2-1 to city rivals AC Milan in this evening’s derby. That was the first time since September of 2022 that the Rossoneri have won in the fixture.

And in truth, Inter were second best to their city rivals for much of the match.

Milan looked the side with more energy and coordination, creating a number of dangerous chances between Christian Pulisic’s early opener and Matteo Gabbia’s late winning goal.

Inter found the back through Federico Dimarco off the back of a well-worked team goal.

But far too often the Nerazzurri allowed Milan to dictate the pace of proceedings.

Lautaro Martinez: “I Take Responsibility For AC Milan Loss” As Inter Captain

Inter captain Martinez started this evening’s match.

And it was yet another match without a goal for the Argentine, who has yet to find the back of the net this season.

Martinez did provide the assist for Federico Dimarco’s goal in the first half.

But beyond goals and assists, it was not the most emphatic of performances from the Argentine.

Usually, Martinez is the player who sets the tone for Inter with his defensive workrate and linkup play.

But against Milan this evening, the entire team looked flat.

After the match, Inter captain Martinez admitted that “We didn’t play the match we’d prepared.”

“We didn’t start off well,” he continued.

Martinez said that “In the second half we did a bit better.”

“But we just have to keep our heads down and work, work, work.”

“I take responsibility as captain,” Martinez said. “We have to raise the level, I’m not doing the job I did last year.”

“But sometimes I just have to work and train in silence to help the team.”
