Hansi Flick’s Barcelona has one clear shortcoming this season | OneFootball

FC Barcelona have been rather inconsistent this season, especially in the last few weeks. La Blaugrana, despite a great start to the campaign, now find themselves no longer at the top of the La Liga table. While there are many factors that can be blamed, Barcelona needs to look at the most obvious ones.

For Hansi Flick, his stay with the Catalan giants so far has produced mixed results. Despite some big wins in big games this season, his team has also dropped points in games where they should have secured all three points with wins. With such dropped points adding up, Barcelona have seen their form decline.

However, arguably one of the most notable factors behind this sudden decline can be attributed to the team’s squad depth. As highlighted by SPORT, the lack of options in certain positions has definitely let Barcelona down and Hansi Flick’s management of his limited resources has not been all too great either.

For instance, there are essentially no quality fullbacks that the German can rely upon beyond his regular starters, and he also does not have direct alternatives to both Marc Casado and Robert Lewandowski. In fact, rarely has Barcelona managed to play better after Flick’s substitutions in any given match.

Coupled with the club’s financial restraints, it becomes practically impossible for Barcelona to solve this issue alongside all the other matters that are proving to be problematic as it stands. That is why, at least for this season, Flick is expected to deliver results with the players that he has at his disposal and not make additional requests for signings.

Still, this major shortcoming in terms of squad depth and utility of resources has derailed Barça’s season. While they are still in the picture for the La Liga title race, things will need to change quickly if Hansi Flick has any hopes from his team to challenge for the league title.
