Gabby Logan’s slaughter of Russell Martin raises Rangers alarm bells

It might have been a slip of the tongue from Prime presenter Gabby Logan, but if ever a verbal mistake was absolutely bang on it was at half time v Bruges. Gabby Logan slaughters Russell Martin.

Speaking to Allan McGregor and Scotty Arfield at Ibrox during the interval, the presenter then slaughtered Rangers’ current ‘manager’ with a belting take-down indicating an opera singer (who supports Man Utd btw) would do a better job in reality than Rangers’ hapless coach.

Quotes

“That was not the half of football that Russell Watson and his side wanted.”

“I think Russell Watson would have probably maybe done a slightly better job than Russell Martin managing there in that first half.”

Suggesting Russell Watson was the manager then using that faux pas to terrorise the abysmal coach we do have was pretty impressive and rather accurate.

Kenny Logan

Her hubby Kenny is a well-known Rangers fan. If she is willing to slaughter the manager publicly, maybe more will.

It was a shocker of a choice and it’s coming home to roost, sadly.

That slip from Gabby Logan was almost poetic. Russell Watson, a tenor, accidentally dropped into the place of Russell Martin, yet it hit harder than any scripted line could. When even neutral broadcasters are mocking the Rangers manager on live TV, you know the ridicule has spilled well beyond Ibrox. Gabby Logan slaughters Russell Martin.

Logan’s jab landed with more weight because of her company. Sitting beside Allan McGregor and Scotty Arfield, two men who gave everything for Rangers, her pointed words highlighted the gulf between the past and present. Martin looked lost as his side collapsed, while Watson, a singer with no tactical knowledge, was painted as a better option. That tells its own story.

Gabby is married to Kenny Logan who wears his Rangers heart on his sleeve. She felt emboldened enough to make that remark live says plenty. She knew she’d have a portion of the support nodding along, grimly agreeing that an opera singer would at least show more control. It was brutal, but it was also true.

Embarrassment

Martin’s tenure already drips with embarrassment, but this public put-down on national TV turns farce into humiliation. When even presenters in the media box are tearing you down, the dressing room must feel it even more. This wasn’t a sly dig, it was a clear dismissal of his credibility as Rangers boss.

The problem remains obvious. Rangers hired the wrong man, and the cracks are no longer cracks, they’re canyons. Logan’s slip wasn’t just a joke, it was a symptom of how little faith exists in the dugout. You don’t need to be a fan to see it anymore.

The sad reality is that Rangers should never have needed a TV presenter to underline it. But when a slip of the tongue captures the truth so sharply, maybe the board will finally listen.
