A look at the apparent wages of Andy Irving as West Ham United midfielder becomes subject of Rangers and Wrexham interest.
The summer transfer window is approaching its end, and clubs across the EFL are beginning to scramble, with Wrexham still very much active in the market, despite having already done quite a lot of business so far.
The Red Dragons, following their third successive automatic promotion to go from non-league to the second-tier last season, have again been ambitious this summer, as they seek to sustain themselves within the top two divisions of English football.
Phil Parkinson’s side have now already seen the higher level of quality and its ability to punish you in the Championship, with back-to-back defeats in the league and eight goals conceded in three matches across all competitions, having lost each of their opening two second-tier outings to Southampton and West Bromwich Albion.
Raising the level of quality and depth across the squad is something that Wrexham have been keen on doing throughout the summer, and the Irons have now been linked with a move for West Ham United midfielder Andy Irving.
As Wrexham chase the Scotsman, reportedly ahead of Scottish giants Rangers, Football League World has taken a look at how much he earns in wages.
According to estimated figures by Capology, Andy Irving earns £5,000 per week at West Ham, which makes him among the lowest earners in the Hammers’ squad, with only Mohamadou Kante and Kaelen Casey - currently on loan at Swansea City on less than that.
Irving, who came through the academy at Heart of Midlothian, moved to Turkgucu Munchen in the summer of 2021, before spending a season at Austria Klagenfurt, which is where West Ham picked him up.
The 25-year-old made his Hammers debut last season and went on to make a total of ten appearances in the Premier League, as well as making his Scotland debut.
His wage of £5,000 per week would not make him the highest earner at the SToK Cae Ras, and would seemingly simply put him in the middle of the pack, although one would imagine that a pay rise would be in order with a move to North Wales.
Capology suggests that former Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez is Wrexham’s highest earner on £25,000 per week, with Sam Smith, Matty James, Oliver Rathbone and James McClean all earning five-figure wages, too.
It has been reported that Wrexham are set to bring in former Leicester City and Coventry City loanee Callum Doyle for a fee believed to be in the region of £8 million from Manchester City.
Should Doyle indeed complete his move, he will become their tenth signing of the summer, with Wrexham having spent heavily.
They recently completed the club-record deal of Nathan Broadhead for an initial £7.5 million from Ipswich Town, and that came on the back of the signings of experienced players such as Conor Coady, Lewis O’Brien and Kieffer Moore.
New Zealand international Liberato Cacace has also been bought from Empoli, whilst Bolton Wanderers captain George Thomason and Plymouth Argyle striker Ryan Hardie have also been purchased.
Experienced goalkeeper Danny Ward has been brought in on a free transfer from Liverpool and he has so far displaced Arthur Okonkwo in the Wrexham goal, with Josh Windass signing on a free transfer after leaving Sheffield Wednesday.
Phil Parkinson has been heavily backed this summer, and the current wages of Andy Irving would only apparently see him become one of the players on the lower end of the scale.
