Fact file: Anton Stach | OneFootball

A sixth summer signing for Leeds United this week arrived in the form of midfielder Anton Stach, who has joined on a four-year deal.

The German international signs from Bundesliga outfit TSG Hoffenheim for an undisclosed fee and links up with the squad for their pre-season camp.

Below are eight facts and figures about our latest recruit...

Representing Germany at the 2021 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, Stach played alongside fellow summer arrival Lukas Nmecha in what was a successful summer for the pair, who lifted the trophy together by beating Portugal in the final.

Sport runs through the Stach family! Anton has two sisters who are professional basketball players and have spent time representing teams across the globe.

Anton’s father, Matthias, is a famous sports commentator in Germany. He was labelled ‘the voice of tennis’ after ending a 15-year playing career in the sport and then picking up the mic from then on. Matthias has also commentated on football, including some of his son’s matches!

Having the chance to follow in his father’s footsteps, Anton had the potential to be a professional tennis player too and regularly competed in high-level youth competitions as a teenager!

Throughout his time at Hoffenheim, Stach has worn the number 16 shirt. Previously at FSV Mainz 05, he was number 6. It remains to be seen what he will wear with the Whites...

Anton will already be familiar with some of his new teammates having played against them before! He has come up against Sebastiaan Bornauw six times, Lukas Nmecha (four), Ilia Gruev (four), Brenden Aaronson (three), Jaka Bijol (twice) and Willy Gnonto (once).

Using OPTA data, over the last two season’s Stach has been ranked as the top player for interceptions across the league, with 120 registered to his name!

The midfielder becomes the fifth German to play the club, with duo Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Felix Wiedwald becoming our first representatives from the country.
