Former Lazio captain Marco Parolo believes Simone Inzaghi won’t change formation in tomorrow’s Serie A clash between Napoli and Inter Milan.

Parolo spoke to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews. He gave his thoughts on Inzaghi’s approach to the top-of-the-table clash.

Going into tomorrow’s match between Napoli and Inter, there have been some speculations about a formation change for the Nerazzurri.

The reason for this would be a lack of options in the wingback roles.

Inter go into tomorrow’s match with a real injury crisis in the wide areas. Only Federico Dimarco and Denzel Dumfries are available for those positions.

That is a big challenge for Inter coach Simone Inzaghi. Particularly considering that the wingback positions are typically ones in which the coach likes to make substitutions around the hour mark.

As such, there have been suggestions that Inzaghi could instead switch the shape to a 4-4-2 in mid-match.

But former Lazio captain Marco Parolo has another idea. The former Italian international spent several seasons with Inzaghi at the Stadio Olimpico, and knows the coach’s methods well.

“I don’t believe that he’ll change the formation,” Parolo noted.

“In one match against Juve, he adapted me to play at wingback,” the former Biancocelesti midfielder recalled, furthermore. “So that he wouldn’t unbalance the entire system.”

Meanwhile, Parolo said that “set pieces” are a particularly area to focus on tomorrow.

Then, the former Lazio captain summarized Inzaghi’s attitude towards big matches like tomorrow’s.

“Always raise your level of concentration,” he said. “And remember who you are and what you’ve done.”

“Where you started. And what the objective is: To win.”

“Inzaghi wants to demonstrate that his team are the reigning champions. He’ll want to dominate the match.”

Parolo also noted that “At Lazio he’d go over to the key players and take us by the arm.”

“He’d make a joke. Motivate us and keep us on track with banter, on the pitch, in the gym, or in the dressing room.”

“But never in his office,” the former Biancocelesti captain added.
