Tammy Abraham will start up front alongside Alvaro Morata for AC Milan against Inter Milan in the derby this evening.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that defender Strahinja Pavlovic will also drop out of the Rossoneri lineup.
Milan coach Paulo Fonseca is looking to change things up for this evening’s derby clash with Inter.
In some respects, the Rossoneri boss has little option.
In the team’s most recent match against Liverpool, Milan were dominated in midfield in particular.
Whether the shape was a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3, they could not establish themselves against Liverpool.
The trio of Youssouf Fofana, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Tijani Reijnders simply never found the right balance. Particularly in possession.
And against Inter this evening in Serie A, Milan will be facing a similar challenge.
The Nerazzurri have a very settled balance in midfield in terms of tactics and personnel. They would certainly be capable of punishing the kind of incoherence that was on display against Liverpool.
According to the Gazzetta, Fonseca’s plan is to change the shape of his team.
The Rossoneri coach will go with a 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 formation against Inter.
That will mean that former Chelsea and Crystal Palace midfielder Loftus-Cheek drops to the bench.
Fonseca will play both Fofana and Reijnders in deeper midfield positions as a duo.
On the flanks, Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic will keep their places.
And then in attack, Fonseca will try and give the Inter defense something novel to think about.
Former Roma and Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham will be the player to come in for a midfielder. Fonseca will play two strikers with the Englishman alongside Alvaro Morata.
Meanwhile, the Gazzetta report, former Red Bull Salzburg defender Pavlovic will drop to the bench after a lacklustre performance against Liverpool.
The newspaper anticipate that it will be Matteo Gabbia who takes the Serb’s place.
