Manchester United starlet Ethan Williams has broken his silence on his superb goal for the club against Bournemouth.
Williams came off the bench and got on the score sheet as United put Bournemouth to the sword in a 4-1 victory at Soldier Field in Chicago.
The young forward was brought on with 20 minutes to go as Ruben Amorim made wholesale personnel changes, with the team leading by three goals.
He made an immediate impact, as he got the best of Will Dennis at his near post to make it 4-0. It was a superb finish that capped off an encouraging overall performance from United.
Earlier this month, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United have plans to loan out Williams. He spent the latter half of the 2024/25 campaign at Cheltenham and did well there, notching two goals and two assists in 17 League Two appearances.
It’s believed that there is a long queue of suitors just waiting to swoop in and take Williams for a season-long temporary spell. Williams wasn’t originally on the list for United’s U.S. pre-season tour, but Amorim made a late call to bring him along after being impressed by his standout performances in training.
It certainly appears that Amorim’s faith in the 19-year-old wasn’t misplaced.
The Englishman spoke to club media after the final whistle and said about his strike vs. the Cherries, “It’s mad, I can’t believe it. It still hasn’t really sunk in, to be honest.”
“It’s a dream come true and I’m so happy right now. I’m thinking about all the moments, all the hard work I’ve been through. You know, I feel so blessed and so happy to be given this opportunity. To score, it’s mad. I can’t even explain how I am feeling, to be honest.”
He said about making the travelling squad, “It was last minute. I was kind of told I wasn’t [going] and then I was. I remember just… not really jumping around the bedroom, but I was buzzing. I’ve been trying to train well as these guys are the best players I’ve ever trained with, know what I mean?”
“To be around it and be learning every single day is a real blessing and I’m just thankful for it all.”
He continued, “Everyone has been so welcoming and so nice. It’s a great group who are really good with the young lads, me and the five or six others coming on our first tour. I can’t name anyone specifically so I would probably say everyone [has been helpful]. Everyone has been proper nice to me anyway.”
He shared that he immediately reached out to his father after scoring, wanting to celebrate the moment with the man who had sacrificed so much for him and his brother. A true full-circle moment.
