Chelsea have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Alejandro Garnacho as the Man Utd outcast is reportedly “keen” on a move in the summer transfer window.
The wide forward is set to leave Old Trafford after falling out with manager Ruben Amorim, who told him to find a new club at the end of last season.
Garnacho is one of several Man Utd players who are surplus to requirements at the club, with Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia also on the chopping block and training away from the first team.
Amid all the speculation surrounding his future, the 21-year-old is said to be “keen on joining Chelsea“, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Napoli were said to be interested in signing Garnacho this past January and this summer, while Atletico Madrid have also been linked, but Chelsea appear to be the frontrunners.
The Blues were his “priority” in the winter transfer window and that remains the case as he seeks an exit from Old Trafford.
Chelsea, however, appear to be biding their time with an official offer for Garnacho, leaving the Man Utd player “waiting” on the move to progress.
Amorim last week left the door open for a possible return to the squad if Garnacho and the other outcasts don’t secure a move away before the end of the window.
“We are just allowing these players to think and decide,” he said. “If they reach a point where they will have to join the team, they will join because they are our players.
“I know for a fact Omar (Barrada, CEO) and Jason (Wilcox, director of football) and the club have a number (price) for these players. If they don’t reach that, they will be Manchester United players, no doubt about that. I understand other clubs are maybe waiting for the last minute, but they can have a surprise.
“I’m ready to receive the players. They have more competition. If they want to play in the World Cup, they need to play. I’m happy with that because I’ll have more options. If they have to fight each other to play, for me it’s perfect.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea player Mamadou Sarr has secured a loan move to sister club Strasbourg.
