David Ornstein identifies Manchester United’s main priority ahead of the upcoming summer while revealing the club’s stance on Ruben Amorim.

The 40-year-old was appointed in November as a replacement for Erik ten Hag following a poor start to the season.

Nevertheless, Amorim hasn’t quite managed to steer the team back to the right path. In fact, the club continues to crumble as evidenced by their surreal 16th place in the Premier League table.

This position is partially justified by United’s Europa League run, as the team has been preserving all effort for Thursday night action. Whilst the continent’s second-tier competition isn’t enough to salvage a calamitous campaign, it would at least yield some silverware, in addition to a spot in the Champions League next season.

In the meantime, circulating reports in the English press claimed that INEOS have seen enough from Amorim, so they’re already plotting a managerial change regardless of the Europa League final outcome.

But as we reported on Monday, these rumours remain unfounded, as the former Sporting CP manager will be given at least another year at the helm.

Ornstein has now confirmed as much, insisting that sacking the manager is the last thing on the hierarchy’s mind at the moment.

In fact, INEOS’ main priority is to provide Amorim with a squad capable of implementing his football ideas.

It should be noted that the Portuguese tactician has been operating with a squad specifically built to interpret Ten Hag’s 4-2-3-1 formation. Hence, the drastic tactical change to 3-4-2-1 has been anything but smooth, with several players struggling to find their best roles in the new system, including Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.

Therefore, providing Amorim with a more suitable squad is the right thing to do, as it would be unfair to judge his work otherwise.
