Maghnes Akliouche has emerged as a summer target for Manchester United , but the AS Monaco star has suggested he may not be ready to move on just yet.
The 23 year old has enjoyed a breakout season in Ligue 1, establishing himself as a key figure at Monaco.
His performances have caught the eye of European heavyweights, including Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, both of whom expressed interest last summer.
Despite speculation that he would leave the Principality this year, Akliouche opted to remain at his boyhood club, even penning a contract extension. Now, as the summer transfer window approaches, United have joined the race for the France youth international.
Monaco have built a reputation for developing and selling top talent, often cashing in on academy graduates at the height of their market value.
Reports indicate that the Ligue 1 club are open to selling Akliouche this summer, with an asking price of €70 million being touted.
The midfielder, however, appears in no rush to depart.
Speaking after Monaco’s recent win over Olympique Lyonnais, Akliouche made clear he is open to staying put. “I am under contract at Monaco, and I hope that I will be here next season, why not?” he said.
That victory against Lyon confirmed Monaco’s qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League, a factor that could play a role in persuading the 23-year-old to stay.
Akliouche’s form this season has been pivotal in helping his side secure a Champions League spot. His creativity and consistency in midfield have made him one of Ligue 1’s standout performers.
While Monaco’s business model encourages selling at peak value, the club may yet be swayed by Akliouche’s wishes, particularly if there is a chance he can increase his stock with a strong European campaign.
For United, the interest reflects an ongoing search for attacking reinforcements in midfield. The Red Devils are expected to be active in the market, with several key players facing uncertain futures at Old Trafford.
City, too, could view Akliouche as a long-term investment, particularly as they look to maintain squad depth across four competitions.
