Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has revealed Eberechi Eze will miss Sunday’s match against Manchester United through injury.

Glasner explained that the England international has been carrying a knock since the 3-2 Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates on December 18.

Eze has started 19 of Palace’s 23 league games this season and has registered goal contributions in five of his last six appearances.

Glasner also confirmed that Cheick Doucoure and Chadi Riad will miss the rest of the season with serious knee injuries. Doucoure has suffered a meniscus injury, while centre-back Riad has ruptured his ACL after a single Premier League appearance in his first campaign with the Eagles, who face United at Old Trafford at 2pm on Sunday.

“Several pieces of bad news at beginning of the week,” Glasner said.

“After further assessments, Cheick needed surgery on his knee and Chadi ruptured his ACL. We’ve lost both for the rest of the season and Chadi even longer. Cheick we hope will maybe return for pre-season.

“Two long-term injuries. We also will miss Eberechi tomorrow. He’s struggled the last weeks and month. He got a knock in the cup game at the Emirates. Since then he always had pain, training, not training, playing, us taking him off.

“Last week, he almost didn’t train whole week, this week it started again. We decided we wanted to get him pain-free so he is able to perform at his best level. He won’t go with us to Manchester tomorrow [Saturday].”

In more positive news, Glasner revealed that midfielder Adam Wharton and forward Matheus Franca have trained in full all week.

“Adam Wharton and Franca trained with us the whole week without any issues. Both will maybe be in the squad, because they were both very impressive in training, lifting their confidence and mood after being out for several weeks.”
