Crystal Palace plot busy deadline day as Marc Guehi waits on Liverpool move

Palace target multiple signings as they close in on deals for Jaydee Canvot and Christantus Uche

Crystal Palace are set for a busy deadline day, as they target multiple incomings and Oliver Glasner waits to see whether he will lose captain Marc Guehi to Liverpool.

Glasner has made it clear Palace must not sell Guehi if they are to have a successful season and said after Sunday’s 3-0 win at Aston Villa: “I think we are working on three more players coming in - one defender and two attackers.”

Liverpool have already bid twice for Guehi this summer. Their second offer arrived on Saturday and was for £35million plus a 10 per cent sell-on clause. They retain an interest in the England centre-back and could move for him before the 7pm deadline.

Palace are set to sign 19-year-old defender Jaydee Canvot in a deal that could reach 23.3m from Toulouse and they are in the market for a second centre-back.

Should Guehi leave, Brighton’s Igor Julio is of interest and a deal could move quickly.

Palace also want to reinforce their attacking midfield positions and are working on a deal to sign Christantus Uche from Getafe. The 22-year-old Nigerian is already in London and is expected to complete a move to Selhurst Park before the deadline.

Palace would like to bring Conor Gallagher back to the club on loan. But while well-placed sources have not ruled out a loan, they have cautioned that Atletico Madrid would prefer to sell the midfielder for between £35m-£40m rather than loan him, in the event that he leaves.

Canvot underwent a medical on Sunday and is set to join Palace for an initial fee of around £16m, with add-ons taking the amount up to a possible £23.3m.

Goalkeeper Dean Henderson is in the frame to be awarded with a new contract and a pay rise, but discussions over a new deal are not as far advanced as has been reported.

Meanwhile, Odsonne Edouard could return to France and there is loan interest in Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, including from Celtic, Rangers, Leicester and Lyon.

Palace are finalising the appointment of Matt Hobbs as their new sporting director following the resignation of Dougie Freedman in the spring. He will be announced after the window closes.
