Some bad news broke late last night regarding Kyle Walker, and it might just prompt reflections from AC Milan on his future beyond 2024-25.

In a statement on the official website, Milan announced that Walker sustained a fractured elbow which required immediate surgery. It is one more problem to manage for Sergio Conceiçao, who loses one of his most experienced players ahead of the remaining league games and second leg vs. Inter.

As Calciomercato.com write, Walker – who arrived on loan from Manchester City during the winter transfer window – had made 14 appearances for Milan to date, spread across the league, Champions League and Coppa Italia.

At a time when Emerson Royal is also out due to a muscle injury, the only options at right-back remain Alex Jimenez – who will return from the suspension he served against Fiorentina – and Alessandro Florenzi. Florenzi himself is only just back from a long lay-off due to a ruptured cruciate ligament.

While waiting to know the exact recovery times, normally estimated at a period ranging from six to eight weeks, Walker’s season at Milan could be over already. This will lead to inevitable reflections on his chances of staying.

The Rossoneri can buy the 34-year-old in June for €5m, but at the moment no decision has been made. Matteo Moretto spoke recently about doubts on the club’s side due to his age and salary, while Walker himself left the door wide open.

“It’s not over with Manchester City. I’m only on loan here. I have to take into account that I can return. Obviously, both parties must reach an agreement at the end of the season and… Listen, the chapter is not completely closed yet, but we’ll see what happens,” he said on his podcast recently.
