Former Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen is reportedly on the radar of a surprise Premier League club, which has made a move to sign him this summer.

Eriksen’s United exit

Eriksen parted ways with United earlier this summer upon the expiry of his contract. He arrived at Old Trafford on a free transfer in July 2022, following a successful stint with Brentford as he returned to action following a heart attack suffered during Euro 2020.

The Dane was a regular at United during his three-year spell, notching 107 appearances. He helped United win the League Cup and the FA Cup.

Eriksen’s exit was announced on the final day of last season. He scored in that game, which ended in a 2-0 victory over Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

The veteran midfielder has since been on the hunt for a new team as he looks to take the next step in his career.

He was the subject of an approach from Wrexham but it’s believed he turned them down. The 33-year-old has also been linked to the likes of Besiktas and former club Ajax.

Now, it has emerged that Eriksen could be playing his football in the Premier League next season, with newly-promoted Burnley keen on adding him to their ranks.

Burnley pursuing Eriksen

The Daily Mail report, “Christian Eriksen is a target for Burnley as they try to build a squad capable of surviving in the Premier League this season.”

“The Clarets are thought to have made initial contact over the move.”

“The 33-year-old has also had offers from Turkey, notably from Fenerbahce where he would link up again with Jose Mourinho, as well as Besiktas and Trabzonspor, but Eriksen’s wish is to remain in western Europe.”

The newspaper notes that as it stands, Eriksen is unlikely to give consideration to offers from Brazil, the Middle East and the United States.

In addition to Burnley, Eriksen also has admirers from clubs in Germany and Spain.
