In a recent report on Substack, journalist Simon Phillips stated that Chelsea are working on a deal for West Ham United winger Mohammed Kudus. It has been claimed that the Blues are eager to strengthen their attack by recruiting the Ghanaian wide player this off-season.

Kudus’ Impressive Form In The Premier League

Kudus put in a series of impressive displays for the East London club during this campaign. The Ghana international featured in 35 matches for West Ham last season, netting five goals and grabbing four assists across multiple competitions.

The 24-year-old caught the eye at times in the final third based on his average of 2.61 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he only kept 28% of his attempts on target. Kudus was accurate when distributing possession in the final third after completing 83.6% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via fbref.com).

Kudus is under contract at the London Stadium until the summer of 2028 which could make it tough for Chelsea to sign him on the cheap this off-season.

Should Chelsea Boss Enzo Maresca Snap Kudus Up This Summer?

Kudus is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some driving runs with it out in the wide areas. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range and has got the vision to play a few decisive passes on the offensive end of the field.

The Ghana international is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also play as a left-winger or operate in the number ten position if required. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the West London club.

We can expect Kudus to bring more firepower to Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca’s attack. He has what it takes to compete for regular first-team football at Stamford Bridge and could help the Blues challenge across all fronts next season.

At 24, Kudus has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a good choice for the West London club to pursue this summer. Therefore, Chelsea would be wise to try everything they can to snap him up before the end of this transfer window.
