Canada Star Reveals Why He Joined Villarreal: “Didn’t Get The Chance” At Inter Milan | OneFootball

Tajon Buchanan revealed the main reason behind his decision to leave Inter Milan and join Villarreal on loan for the rest of the season.

Interviewed upon his arrival in Spain via FCInterNews, the Canada international lamented a lack of first-team chances at the San Siro.

Simone Inzaghi’s charges allowed Tajon Buchanan to move to Estadio de la Ceramic on loan with an option to buy.

Indeed, Villarreal agreed to pay a €1 million loan fee, with the buyout clause set at around €13-14m.

Buchanan swapped Club Brugge for Inter last January but had never settled in the new environment.

Therefore, a temporary switch to La Liga emerged as a win-win scenario.

“My first impressions are great,” Buchanan said on his first conference as a Villarreal player.

“Everyone has welcomed me well. This is a new adventure for me, and I’m very happy to be here.

“I can’t wait to show what I can do, I’m ready.”

He believes he has made the right choice.

“They have left a very positive impression on me. It’s a team that plays very offensively, and they’ve shown their quality.

“I believe I can do well here. I like creating chances in attack, even though I know I have defensive responsibilities as well.”

Then, Buchanan admitted a lack of first-team opportunities at Inter convinced him to pursue a new adventure.

“I reached a point where I wanted to play more, and at Inter, I didn’t get the opportunities I wanted,” he added.

“Villarreal showed interest in me some time ago, and now they came back for me.

“When the opportunity came, I didn’t think twice. It’s the perfect chance to get back to playing regularly and prove my level.”

Despite only recently recovering from a long-term injury, Buchanan insists he’s in ‘good’ shape.

“I feel good and in shape,” he continued. “Maybe I lack the full rhythm to be at 100%, but that will come with matches.

“It’s up to the coach to decide, if he asks me to play, I’ll give my all.

“If it were up to me, I’d be ready to help the team immediately.”

Meanwhile, Inter signed Nicola Zalewski on loan to fill the vacancy.
