Christopher Nkunku has won a lot of internal support at Chelsea, but still faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge according to reports.
Nkunku appeared in six of Chelsea’s seven games at the Club World Cup, including the final, and played more than many would have expected.
The 27-year-old came on ahead of Nicolas Jackson against Paris Saint Germain, which was interesting and it perhaps leaves Chelsea with a bit of a dilemma.
Enzo Maresca said Nkunku was playing because he deserved to, whilst it’s thought Chelsea want at least eight or nine attacking options in their squad for next season.
Nkunku arrived from RB Leipzig for £52m in the summer of 2023 to much excitement, but his first season was ruined by injury, and Cole Palmer stepped up and made himself the star man.

Last season Nkunku struggled for regular minutes and was used sparingly by Maresca, scoring just three goals in 27 Premier League appearances.
Nkunku has interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester United, but BBC Sport have reported the Frenchman impressed staff internally during the Club World Cup and has won a lot of support.
The report adds Chelsea won’t block Nkunku from leaving if a suitable offer comes in, but there’s no rush to force him out.
United have reportedly been quoted £35m to sign Nkunku, and it remains to be seen what offers Chelsea would deem acceptable, and whether the attacker would be happy to stay and play a squad role.
Whilst Nkunku could remain at Chelsea, it’s almost certain Joao Felix will leave just 12 months after joining from Atletico Madrid.

The 25-year-old joined last summer in a deal worth £45m, but spent the second half of last season on loan at AC Milan due to limited game time.
Milan opted against making the deal permanent, and Felix has attracted interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, but he’s expressed his desire to return to Benfica, with negotiations thought to be underway.
