Bayern Munich: Three key players can negotiate with interested clubs

Bayern Munich risk losing several key players on a free transfer in the summer as they are yet to finalize their contract extensions. Alphonso Davies, Joshua Kimmich, and Leroy Sané are the players whose contracts with Bayern are set to expire in six months.

With the turn of the new year, pressure mounts up on Bayern’s management, who have left contract negotiations until the last minute and are now running out of time to secure their players. Starting January 1, the three players will be allowed to enter talks with interested clubs and even sign pre-contract agreements for a summer move.

Wages still a sticking point with Alphonso Davies

Bayern would love to retain Alphonso Davies, but the salary demands from the full-back exceed what the club is willing to pay. More negotiations are expected to happen in January as Bayern don’t want to lose out on the talented left-back who seems to have found his best form once again in this season.

However, if Bayern fail to secure an extension, Davies won’t have trouble finding potential suitors in Europe. Real Madrid has been plotting a move for the Canadian since last summer and they could initiate formal talks with him now. FC Barcelona and Manchester United have also expressed interest, but a move is unlikely due to internal wage constraints at both clubs.

Bayern await Kimmich’s final decision

Kimmich planned to take time during the winter break to reflect on his future. Bayern are more than willing to extend his contract and have clearly explained the midfielder that they view him as ‘future captain’. They expect a final decision from the player in January, ideally before the Bundesliga resumes on January 11.

One reprieve for Bayern is that no other club has expressed serious interest in signing Kimmich so far. Manchester City and FC Barcelona have been linked with Kimmich, but they are yet to hold talks with the German midfielder..This may give them some breathing room to work on the contract extension. Kimmich himself remains professional and has made it clear that Bayern will be his first point of contact

Extension unlikely with Leroy Sané

While Leroy Sané is willing to waive a chunk of his current salary for a new contract, the club doesn’t share the same enthusiasm as they remain unconvinced in the 28-year-old due to his inconsistent performances. The current tendency is that Sané's contract won’t be extended unless he delivers an outstanding second half of the season.

The winger feels very comfortable in Munich and wants to continue with Die Roten, but as things stand, but he may end up having to look for a new destination. Premier League giants Manchester United and Arsenals have shown some interest in the player, however, it is not at an advanced stage.

Besides these three, Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller have also entered the final six months of their Bayern contracts. An extension for Neuer until 2026 is expected to be finalized soon. On the other hand, Thomas Müller is leaning more towards retiring at the end of the season, though this remains far from certain as the club will hold some form of discussion with him as well.
