Big friendly on Monday as 2025 opener

The winter break is over already! Our short and sweet preparation period for our first competitive matches of the new year sees us face German record champions Bayern Munich on 6 January at 18:00 in our Red Bull Arena.

New coach Thomas Letsch, who was presented at a press conference yesterday, will therefore face a familiar adversary. His last match on the sidelines for Bochum came in February 2024 against Harry Kane and his Bayern team-mates.

Bayern are well and truly bouncing back this season. After finishing the previous campaign in the unfamiliar role of runners-up (to Bayer Leverkusen), sporting director Christoph Freund and his club are once again right at the top of the pack in the German Bundesliga.

We meet again

The UEFA Champions League has seen us have several encounters with Bayern in recent years - with the side from over the German border having more reason to cheer. In November 2020 we had two group stage defeats before our historic last 16 tie in 2021/22 brought a loss in the second leg after an impressive 1-1 draw in the first. We are hoping for a repeat of our friendly win in 2014 when Sadio Mane (one of a select group of players to have appeared for both clubs), Jonatan Soriano and Robert Zulj made for a 3-0 win. We cannot expect Bayern to take their foot off the pedal with the visitors looking for a real test before they get back to business in the Bundesliga this Saturday.

Some 25,000 tickets have already been sold. You can get your seat at the online ticket shop:
