Liverpool fans woke up to unsettling news this week as Bayern Munich submitted an opening €52 million offer for Luis Diaz, as reported by Christian Falk of BILD. The Colombian winger, who has been pivotal for Liverpool since his arrival, is now at the centre of transfer speculation that could reshape both clubs’ summer plans.
Bayern Munich’s need for a winger this window has been well documented. According to SPORT BILD, Diaz features heavily on their shortlist, and their initial approach underlines serious intent. Christian Falk confirmed on X, “True, FC Bayern should have submitted an offer to Liverpool for Luis Diaz. Luis Díaz wants to join FC Bayern.”
Diaz’s desire for the move has added fuel to the fire. German journalist Florian Plettenberg reported that Diaz has even gone as far as submitting a transfer request, a development that raises major questions about his Liverpool future.
Liverpool have been eager to secure Diaz’s long-term commitment, but negotiations have reportedly stalled. According to reports from Colombia, Diaz and his entourage are unhappy with Liverpool’s current contract offer. Unless their terms are met, the 28-year-old could push for a move away from Anfield this summer.
Liverpool’s valuation, reportedly around €80 million, places Bayern’s €52 million bid well below the mark. However, the signal from Bayern is clear — they are ready to test Liverpool’s resolve, particularly given Diaz’s apparent willingness to switch to the Bundesliga champions.
For Liverpool, the potential loss of Diaz is significant. Under Arne Slot, who sensationally won the Premier League title in his debut season, Diaz has been a regular contributor, both in goals and assists. His pace, directness and work rate have made him a fan favourite and a vital cog in Liverpool’s pressing system.
Slot now faces a summer of uncertainty. With contract talks faltering and Bayern circling, Liverpool’s recruitment team will need to decide whether to hold firm or cash in and reinvest.

For Bayern, adding a player of Diaz’s calibre would bolster their wide options considerably. His profile fits the Bavarians’ fast, attacking style and his Champions League experience would be invaluable. Whether they can meet Liverpool’s asking price remains the big question.
As Christian Falk’s confirmation suggests, this is no speculative rumour. Bayern are pushing, Diaz is interested, and Liverpool must act quickly to resolve the situation.
As Liverpool fans, this report comes as a gut punch. Luis Diaz has been one of the few constants through a period of major change at Anfield.
After all, Diaz has been central to Slot’s system, providing width and creativity when it mattered most. How has the club let negotiations slip to this point? Surely after a title-winning campaign, the focus should be on strengthening, not losing key players.
The reported €52 million bid is frankly insulting. Bayern know Liverpool won’t sell at that price, but they’re clearly exploiting the situation, knowing Diaz wants the move. The board must stand firm — either Bayern pay up or Diaz stays. Losing a player of his quality, right after such a historic season, sends the wrong message to fans and rivals alike.
It’s now on the Liverpool hierarchy to show ambition. Pay Diaz what he’s worth, or replace him decisively if he forces his way out. Anything less risks undermining Slot’s brilliant start and leaving supporters wondering what could have been.
