Following weeks of speculation, Barcelona have finally decided to not go through with the sale of Mika Faye.

The young defender was closely linked with a move to FC Porto. However, Barça have decided to retain his services for the season ahead, meaning the defender’s move to Portugal is now off the table.

Why did Barcelona veto Porto move?

FC Barcelona’s decision to not sell Mika Faye to FC Porto was largely influenced by a valuation disagreement between the two parties.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona had a clear valuation in mind for the transfer of Mika Faye. The Catalans wanted a fee of €15 million and wanted to include a buyback clause in the deal.

The valuation of the buyback clause was around €30-32 million valid till 2026. FC Porto, however, were not on board with such demands.

Flick wants Faye to continue

Following his botched move to FC Porto, Barcelona are ready to incorporate Mika Faye into the first-team setup.

As per Romano, coach Hansi Flick has already informed Faye that he wants him to be a part of the first team next season.

Although Barcelona do have a stacked central defensive unit, Faye’s presence in the team could be useful next season.

For one, the youngster is a left-footed centre-back, which could add more variety to the team. Not to mention, it will allow Barça to offload Inigo Martinez – the only other left-footed central defensive option in the team.

Moreover, Faye has shown exceptional talent in the youth competitions and is more than capable of adding more quality and depth to the Barcelona defence.

That means, in the long run, Faye’s presence may even allow Barça to get rid of either Jules Kounde or Ronald Araujo.
