Marc Casado has played a key role in Barcelona’s success this season, emerging as a midfield lynchpin and becoming a trusted partner for Pedri in the middle of the park.

However, Casado’s success wouldn’t have happened had it not been for the early season injury of a certain Marc Bernal.

Bernal, just like Casado, had made an early season impact under Hansi Flick and was destined to make a breakthrough, before he eventually picked up a serious ACL injury.

Bernal’s injury ensured that he won’t be returning to the pitch anytime soon, paving the way for Casado to rise among the banks and eventually make a breakthrough in the senior team.

Update on Bernal’s fitness

However, in what could be a major boost for Barcelona, it appears Marc Bernal’s recovery is going really well, reports Mundo Deportivo.

It appears that Hansi Flick is personally overseeing the youngster’s recovery, having played a key role in giving him his first-team breakthrough.

Not to mention, Flick’s trust in Bernal was crucial in convincing Barcelona to extend the contract of the young midfielder until 2029.

Bernal, who had to undergo surgery a week after his injury, has now made some giant strides, with regard to his fitness.

In fact, the report even goes on to claim that Barcelona are soon expecting Bernal to return to the pitch to resume normal training.

The youngster’s potential return within the coming months should serve as a massive boost for Flick, who has already been blessed with Frenkie de Jong’s return to form this year.

The likes of de Jong, Casado and Bernal fighting for just one midfield position is just the kind of depth Flick would hoping for, in the not-too-distant future.
