Barcelona continue to benefit from smart contract clauses inserted into agreements for former players.

As reported by SPORT, Ludovit Reis, a former Barcelona player in the club’s B team, has been transferred from Hamburg to Club Brugge for €7 million.

This deal will see Barça receive €1.75 million – marking the fifth transaction this summer bringing indirect revenue to the club.

Reis, who joined Barcelona from Groningen in the summer of 2019 for €3.25 million, played just one season with the reserves. He made 25 appearances for Barça B. Though called up twice to the first team, he never made an official debut.

In 2020, he was loaned to German side Osnabruck before securing a permanent move to Hamburg for €2.1 million. In that deal, Barcelona retained 25% of any future sale, which has now materialised with his move to Club Brugge.

The result: a €1.75 million windfall for the Catalan club, generating a total profit of €600,000 on the player.

Summer revenue totals €16.75 Million

This is not the first indirect income Barcelona have secured this summer. The club has so far brought in €16.75 million from various transfers, both direct and via sell-on clauses.

The largest amount came from Jean-Clair Todibo’s €20 million move from Nice to West Ham, which earned Barça €8 million for their retained 20%.

Next was Alex Valle, whose €6 million release clause was paid by Como. For Ilaix Moriba, the club received €600,000 after Celta Vigo paid €6 million to sign him permanently from RB Leipzig.

Barcelona also received €400,000 from the sale of Alex Collado, having retained 20% of his rights as Real Betis sold him to Qatari side Al-Shamal for €2 million.

More potential income ahead

Barcelona could still bring in additional revenue this summer, which would further help the club with Financial Fair Play compliance and make room for major signings.

The La Liga champions retain a percentage of future sales for several former players: Oscar Mingueza (Celta Vigo, 50%), Francisco Trincao (Sporting CP, 50%), Mika Marmol (Las Palmas, 50%), and Estanis Pedrola (Sampdoria, 50%).
