Barcelona ace Robert Lewandowski started the 2024-25 season in blazing fashion and ended the last year as the top scorer in the top five European leagues.

After his excellent start to the season, he slowed down a bit in the last few weeks of the last year, and was unable to find the net in the last four games of 2024.

However, he was once again back to his best in the opening game of the year against Barbastro in the Copa del Rey, in which he scored a brace to help his team secure their way to the next round with a 4-0 victory.

With these two goals, Mundo Deportivo notes that he is only 1 goal behind the figure that he reached at the end of the last season, i.e., 26 goals. This season, he has already scored 25 goals in 25 games, while in the previous season, he had scored 26 goals in 49 games. Thus, he can reach his last season’s tally in half the number of games.

Lewandowski will be looking to reach this number of 26 goals in the upcoming Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, a competition in which he has been particularly good in the past. He has scored in all the four games he has played in this competition since joining FC Barcelona.

He opened his account for the Super Cup in the semi-final against Real Betis in 2023 before again scoring in the final against Real Madrid, which the Blaugranes won 3-1.

Last year he again scored a goal apiece in the two games the Catalans played in the competition, scoring against Osasuna in the semi-final and against Real Madrid in the final, despite being on the losing end of a 4-1 scoreline.

Thus, the Pole will be particularly fired up for this competition that Barcelona are set to kick off with a match against Athletic Club tomorrow.
