Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has confirmed that Andreas Christensen will play no part in the club’s upcoming meeting with Barbastro.
Barca, of course, are primed to kick the club’s Copa del Rey endeavours for the season into gear this weekend.
A meeting with 2nd tier Barbastro lies in wait on Saturday evening, with a place in the competition’s Last-16 at stake for the two sides.
Some of the less frequently utilised members of Barcelona’s squad are expected to be afforded a chance to impress in the clash, with the likes of Ansu Fati and Frenkie de Jong tipped to feature from the off.
One player who will play no part, however, comes in the form of the aforementioned Andreas Christensen.
Defender Christensen has for his part not taken to the pitch in a competitive setting since all the way back in August, owing to an Achilles injury.
After the Danish international spent recent weeks ramping up his fitness, it had been suggested that his comeback could be pencilled in for Saturday.
Drawn on as much during his pre-match press conference this afternoon, though, Hansi Flick went on to admit:
“Christensen is doing very well, he has improved in training but it’s still too early to play in Barbastro. He could come to Saudi Arabia, but perhaps the idea is for later.”
