According to SPORT, Barcelona are starting to take the idea of signing Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan very seriously.

In the last few days, Dumfries has emerged as one of the key players on the Blaugrana sporting management’s list, and a decision on his future could come soon.

The Dutch right-back was offered to Barça by his new agent, Jorge Mendes, who sees a clear opportunity because Dumfries has a €25 million release clause valid until July 15.

A crucial factor in this potential transfer is Dumfries’ recent change of representation. He left his previous agency to join Jorge Mendes, who plans to take advantage of the buyout clause, available only for clubs outside Italy, to push for a summer move.

Mendes believes this is the perfect moment for Barça to sign a much-needed right-back. Within Barcelona, there is total sporting approval to move forward with Dumfries, but the club’s economic situation is currently holding things back.

Barcelona’s sporting management has acknowledged Mendes’ proposal and confirmed that they will make a decision on Dumfries next week.

However, before making any signings, the club needs to reach La Liga’s 1:1 financial rule, which would allow them to register new players without exceeding salary limits.

Barça’s plan is to strengthen the right-back position and possibly add an attacking option once they have cleared enough room.

Time is running out, though as Dumfries’ €25 million release clause expires on July 15. After that, his price will rise above €35 million, making a deal nearly impossible for Barcelona.

Dumfries himself is fully aware of Barça’s interest and is very open to the move. Now, everything hinges on the club’s ability to sort their finances and give the green light before the clause deadline passes.
