Barcelona defensive heavyweight set to sign renewal until 2030 today – report | OneFootball

Jules Kounde has emerged as one of the most reliable and consistent performers for FC Barcelona during his time at the club.

Even though not a natural right-back, the French international has adapted to the role brilliantly and was integral to the team’s domestic treble triumph last season.

As such, the Catalans have been eager to renew his contract for a while now, and the player himself confirmed while on the pre-season tour of Asia that an agreement had been reached.

Kounde will sign his new contract today

In fact, according to journalist Juli Claramunt of Jijantes FC, Kounde will sign his new contract renewal with Barcelona this Friday.

The 26-year-old defender’s previous deal with the Blaugrana ran until the summer of 2027, and his new one will see it get extended by three more years until 2030.

The update specifies that while the player will be signing his contract today, Barcelona will hold off on making an official announcement for a few days.

Kounde arrived at Barcelona in the summer of 2022, signing from Sevilla – turning down a much more lucrative offer from Chelsea in the process.

So far in his time with the Catalan giants, the versatile defender has made 141 appearances in which he has seven goals, including the match-winner in the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid last season. He also has 18 assists to his name.

Barcelona have been proactive in recent months with regard to tying down key players to new contracts.

The likes of Pedri, Gavi, Lamine Yamal, and Raphinha, among others, have all inked new deals, and Kounde will join the list by signing his extension today.
