Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has said that nobody will try to stop Alvaro Morata from leaving the club this summer if he wants to join AC Milan.

The president spoke to Telecinco in Spain (via Milan News) and was immediately asked about the news that Morata is going to join Milan and his release clause will soon be triggered.

As he explained, he was under the impression earlier in the summer that Morata would be staying for another season in the Spanish capital, but that no longer seems to be the case and the club will respect the decision.

“He seems to be leaving… according to the press. He told us he was staying and now he’s leaving. No problem, but Morata is a great player and a great person. If he wants to leave, no one will stop him. Neither me nor Atletico,” Cerezo said.

Morata is currently in Madrid having travelled back with the rest of the Spain squad from Germany. They beat England 2-1 in Berlin to win the 2024 European Championship and now the squad is celebrating in Madrid before taking some time off ahead of the new season.

Morata is expected to undergo his medical tests in the next few days before he then heads to Milan to sign for the club, with the Rossoneri preparing to trigger the €13m release clause.
