Former Arsenal player Jeremie Aliadiere has urged the Gunners to sign ex-Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, following the imminent arrival of Viktor Gyökeres.

Arsenal are close to finalising the signing of the Sweden international, with only a medical and a few formalities remaining. The move comes after the club finally reached a breakthrough with Sporting over the structure of the add-ons, which had previously stalled negotiations and threatened to derail the deal for the 27-year-old.

Despite his expected arrival, the Gunners are still tipped to sign another forward, and according to Aliadiere, that player should be a centre-forward.

Aliadiere: Calvert-Lewin would bring something different

Speaking to UK Riches via Metro, Aliadiere encouraged his former club to consider the free agent.

“If Arsenal are clear with Dominic Calvert-Lewin on what they want from him, I think he’d be a great asset to have in the squad,” he said.

“If the club are clear that he will be playing a role from the bench and he is happy with that and will still work hard in training, I think he would offer a different option to the team.

“I don’t know what his mindset is and if he would be happy with that, he has had a few injuries over the last two years which is a concern, but we know what a great forward he can be when he is fit.

“He is great in the air which means you can be more direct, I think it would be interesting.”

A once-prolific forward available on a free

The 28-year-old, who has been a long-term Arsenal target in previous windows, departed Everton this summer following another difficult campaign. He made just 26 appearances in all competitions, scoring only three goals, with injuries once again limiting his availability.

Injuries plagued the centre-forward throughout the latter part of his nine-year stay in the Everton first team. His best season came in 2020-21, when he netted 21 goals for the Toffees. However, setbacks since then have taken their toll, eventually resulting in his release as a free agent.

This one could split opinion, but should Arsenal consider bringing in Calvert-Lewin on a free?
