A message for Newcastle United fans who are against signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin

To some of the people who are against Eddie Howe and Newcastle United making a move for Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, what I will say 1984 Frankie style is, “Relax, don’t slate it, If Dom’s gonna Come.”

The part-time catwalk king and silver screen wannabe might not be going to Hollywood just yet, however, I definitely think his next port of call will be Newcastle United.

That’s because Eddie Howe knows a good player when he sees one and on his day, Dominic Calvert-Lewin can be absolutely immense.

He has a physical presence up front that would be unique within the current Newcastle set-up but I understand the natural concerns about his fitness.

That taken into account, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been pivotal to helping keep Everton afloat in the Premier League for about the last five seasons. They simply wouldn’t have done it without him.

Eddie has wanted this lad for two and a half years and we all have to back his judgement.

My opinion is that this could be deemed as a high-risk signing but I think Dominic Calvert-Lewin would actually thrive in the black and white stripes.

It is a true fact that accomplished players don’t seem to get injured as much at good sides (Callum Wilson being the exception in our case of course) and lets face it, United are now on a different level to the scouse mackems of Everton.

There are not many players who are now guaranteed more than 30 starts a season in the EPL for Newcastle, as our squad gets bigger and stronger.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin would be a snip at around £30m in today’s market and would be the perfect foil for Alexendar Isak, if Eddie decided to utilise them together.

Somebody will be leaving the Toon though and according to reports this could be Yankuba Minteh.

This lad is coming off the back of a successful season on loan at Feyenoord and letting him be sold, before he has actually kicked a ball for us in anger, may seem strange to many.

Sometimes sacrifices and tough decisions have to be made for the short and long term benefit of a business, Newcastle United PLC are no different to anyone else in that repect.

Back to Eddie Howe and Dominic Calvert-Lewin though, all I will say is that “If he’s good enough for him, He’s good enough for me.”
