Following their return to the 1:1 status, there is now a possibility of significant changes taking place in the FC Barcelona squad. In fact, some of these changes might manifest themselves in this very month.

This is looking to be the case with the recent reports coming out of the Catalan club, which indicate the increasing willingness of the Blaugranes to part ways with some of their current players to be able to bring reinforcements for some of the weaker areas of the team.

However, according to SPORT, one player previously rumored to be on the move in January—defender Eric García—is now expected to stay with the club.

The €18m-rated Spanish defender returned to the Blaugrana club last summer after spending a season on loan at Girona, where he became a key part of Michel’s team. Girona wanted to sign him once again in the summer, but the injuries of Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araújo closed the door to a possible departure.

Meanwhile, Michel’s side has continued to make efforts for Garcia, and is once again interested in signing him in January. Meanwhile, another La Liga side, Real Sociedad, has also joined Girona in the pursuit of the defender.

However, the former Manchester City player is now less likely to leave for two main reasons. Firstly, the Spaniard himself wants to remain at Barcelona till the end of the season and then make a decision about his future in the summer.

His contract goes till 2026 and as he has not yet been offered a renewal, he will make a decision on his future in the coming months.

Secondly, there is another defender who is looking highly likely to leave the Blaugrana club in January, i.e., Ronald Araújo, who has offers from Arsenal and Juventus.

The Catalans are not looking to let two defenders leave this month because it will leave them with only three center-back options, Pau Cubarsí, Iñigo Martínez, and Christensen, with the latter still recovering from his injury.
