Joshua Kimmich has long been linked with a move to FC Barcelona, especially when Xavi Hernandez was in charge.
While things seem to have quietened down following Hansi Flick’s arrival as manager, recent reports have suggested that the German tactician would welcome a reunion with his former protege.
With Kimmich’s contract at Bayern Munich expiring at the end of the season, the Blaugrana can sign him for free in the summer, although it had been suggested that the midfielder would end up renewing his contract.
However, that does not appear to be the case.
Indeed, according to Sky Germany (h/t SPORT), Kimmich has yet to respond to Bayern Munich regarding his intentions to renew his contract, despite the club’s request for clarity before January 5.
The Bundesliga club officials now interpret the silence as the midfielder awaiting concrete offers from Premier League clubs or Barcelona before making a final decision.
Bayern have made Kimmich’s renewal a top priority due to his exceptional performances this season. The 29-year-old has received several renewal proposals but has not engaged in negotiations.

Bayern had requested Kimmich to provide clarity over his decision by January 5. The request was not presented as an ultimatum but rather as a call for transparency to aid in planning for the upcoming season, but there has been no response.
The Bavarians remain persistent but recognise that the player appears to have significant doubts about his future.
Barcelona are aware of the situation, and manager Hansi Flick has a close relationship with Kimmich. However, the financial demands involved currently exceed the Catalan club’s capabilities.
While Barça view him as a valuable asset due to his versatility in playing both as a central midfielder and a right-back, no formal steps have been taken to secure his signing for the summer.
Should Kimmich decide to leave Bayern definitively, Barcelona might intensify their interest.
Meanwhile, Kimmich has garnered considerable attention in the Premier League, with both Manchester City and Manchester United expressing interest in his future.
PSG are also monitoring the situation, though the player is said to favour a move to the Premier League or La Liga if he departs Bayern.
In Germany, there is a consensus that Bayern Munich have always been Kimmich’s preferred destination. However, the delays in negotiations are now casting doubt on his continuity at the Bavarian club.
