England have just won the Under-21 Euros, and while there were no Chelsea players in the team, there was a former Blue in the form of Tino Livramento.
Ex-Chelsea winger Joe Cole hailed the young Newcastle full back and his superb ability on the Dressing Room podcast.
Tino Livramento signs his Southampton contract in 2021.
“I watched him throughout the tournament, and I coached him a few times at Chelsea, he was coming through when I was there. Lovely lad, great ability. I remember doing a session with him on crossing. I was just trying to break down the three different crosses you would do. He had everything – big, powerful, great skill, great attitude,” Cole explained.
“With Chelsea, when we talk about the new model, we praise them. You’ve still lost Tino Livramento… Tino Livramento would get in Chelsea’s team now, I think. He was absolutely brilliant. If it weren’t for Harvey Elliott getting player of the tournament, he could have been in the running.”
You can see Cole speaking about Livramento in the clip embedded here:
We were always huge Livramento fans here – you can find countless examples of us saying how foolish it was to let him go to Southampton when we did.
Of course he was pushing to leave because of a lack of game time, but it wouldn’t have been hard to clear a pathway for him, especially given how bad Reece James’ injury problems have been over the years.
If Chelsea had really wanted to make it happen, we think they could have. All we can do now is hope they sign him back one day. We’d happily sell Malo Gusto to make room.
