A new report has offered insight into what various sources are saying about the future of Ederson at Manchester City, amid interest from Saudi Arabia.

The Manchester City number one goalkeeper has been linked with interest from the Middle-Eastern football project since the final games of the most-recent season, with a number of clubs leaning towards making significant offers for the 30-year-old.

Ederson’s most-recent season was more complicated than previous campaigns working at Manchester City, sustaining a number of accidental injuries in-game and opening the way for back-up choice Stefan Ortega to impress.

However, despite all the talk, Ederson remains a Manchester City player with the club’s pre-season training camp now around two weeks away, and having had plenty of time to work on any possible exit with his representatives and family given his absence from Copa America.

But what exactly has been going on in the background, and has there been any progress on a move to Saudi Arabia? Fresh reports have provided insight into what is being felt from both the side of those in the Middle-East, and at Manchester City.

According to the information of The Athletic’s Sam Lee, sources in Saudi Arabia had been expecting Manchester City’s first-choice goalkeeper Ederson to move to the Middle East when consulted at the end of last season.

However it is now pointed out that at the moment, sources at the Premier League champions ‘do not seem especially alarmed’ about the situation concerning the 30-year-old, who is still viewed as the best solution in goal by manager Pep Guardiola.

Manchester City would be highly likely to seek a replacement for Ederson in the ongoing summer transfer window, should the Brazilian decide that a future in Saudi Arabia is his next best step in his playing career.

It does remain unknown as to whether they would be searching for a direct replacement and bring in a new number one choice, or whether a promotion for Stefan Ortega could be on the cards and as such eye a new back-up.

The German goalkeeper was impressive in all of his outings for Manchester City last season, showcasing his talents in high-profile matches such as Liverpool away in the Premier League, Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu, and Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals.

Such was the impressive nature of Ortega’s performances throughout the season that Manchester City officials felt it deserving to issue a one-year extension offer to the goalkeeper in a deal that was accepted and keeps him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2026.
