West Brom are among the clubs eyeing a move for ex-Bolton Wanderers forward Oladapo Afolayan.
According to Hayters, the Championship side have cast their attention on the 27-year-old ahead of the final weeks of the window.
It has been claimed that the Baggies face competition from rivals Leicester City, Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City.
Afolayan has spent the last two-and-a-half seasons with St Pauli, where he has contributed 15 goals and seven assists from 79 league appearances.
When asked about the possible signing of Afolayan, FLW’s West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess claimed that it would be a risk but potentially one worth taking for the club.
He believes Albion should still consider alternative options, but if nothing else comes up then a push for the 27-year-old late in the window could make sense, depending on possible sales.
“Looking at his goal record in Germany the last few seasons, it does seem like that he did perform reasonably well in the second tier in Germany when St Pauli won promotion,” Burgess told Football League World.
“When they competed in the Bundesliga the next year, he still scored three goals.
“But it does seem he was transitioning with a team up to the top tier in German football, so it’s understandable why his goal record did come down.
“Of course, he performed really well with Bolton Wanderers during his time there, and I can’t say I’ve watched too much of him.
“I think it could be a reasonable risk with us having Grant and Johnston out on the left wing already.
“I think that a right-sided winger would be more of a priority, depending on Fellows, Wallace, their futures.
“So I think it’s one where I could see Albion take a risk late on in the window, but I think there might be better options out there.”
Ryan Mason oversaw his first game in charge at West Brom last weekend, with his side clinching a 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers at the Hawthorns.
Afolayan is comfortable playing across the forward line, which would make him a very useful addition to any squad.
He has also now earned some top flight experience with St Pauli, helping them gain promotion to the Bundesliga, where they then finished 14th in the table.
While his goal record at that level wasn’t mindblowing by any means, he still played regularly, and he found the back of the net nine times to help them get into the division.
Depending on the fee, and what player sales West Brom
