Viktor Gyökeres today officially signed a five-year contract with English Premier League club Arsenal.

The protracted transfer negotiations that have made headlines all summer finally came to an end with Arsenal paying Sporting Clube de Portugal €65.75 million plus €10.25 million in add-ons for the Swedish striker, as per the Lisbon club’s official notification to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission.

Despite a messy exit from the Portuguese capital, with Gyökeres blanking pre-season training to try and force through the move, the centre-forward leaves Sporting a Bonafide club legend after two prolific seasons.

In 102 matches in the Green and White, Gyökeres scored 97 goals and provided 27 assists, playing a major role in driving Sporting to back-to-back championships for the first time in 71 years.

Having recently turned 27, he arrives at the world’s most high-profile league as something of a late bloomer, but will be keen to leave his mark at the London club.

Arsenal have finished second in the Premier League in the last three seasons and have invested heavily this summer to try and take that final step and win the title.

In addition to Gyökeres, the Gunners have brought in goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and Noni Madueke from Chelsea, Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia, Christian Norgaard from Brentford and Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.

As for Sporting, Colombian striker Luis Suárez is expected to sign in the coming hours for a fee of around €25 million.
