Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia will not be joining Elche ahead of the close of the summer transfer window.
While other members of Ruben Amorim’s ‘bomb squad’ have already secured transfers or are on the brink of landing new teams, Malacia hasn’t been as lucky.
Marcus Rashford completed a loan move to Barcelona last month, while Alejandro Garnacho was officially unveiled as a Chelsea player over the weekend.
Antony and Jadon Sancho are set to seal moves to Real Betis and Aston Villa respectively. Antony will join Betis on a permanent basis while Sancho is heading out on a season-long loan.
Last week, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Elche were working on a deal to sign Malacia.
Following his return from a 17-month injury lay-off, Malacia was unable to break into Ruben Amorim’s plans and was subsequently allowed to move to PSV Eindhoven on a six-month loan during the January transfer window.
He has been on the market since, but no firm offers have materialised apart from Elche’s tentative interest.
However, it has emerged that the switch to the Spanish outfit will not happen due to United’s insistence that the deal become a permanent one at the end of the season.
According to The Athletic’s Mark Critchley, “Talks regarding Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia’s prospective loan to Elche have collapsed.”
“Club-to-club negotiations between United and Elche were being held at the end of last week. But discussions broke down over the weekend after all parties involved were unable to agree on the inclusion of a clause to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.”
This has been corroborated by Chris Wheeler who wrote on X, “Understand Tyrell Malacia’s loan to Elche is unlikely to happen.”
“The final bomb squad member may now stay beyond today’s deadline, but it’s open in Saudi Arabia until Sept 10 and for 2 days after that in Turkey. Malacia was linked with Saudi before Elche showed an interest.”
Elche have now turned their attention towards alternative target Adria Pedrosa of Sevilla.
