Manchester City picked up a crucial 2-nil win over Everton yesterday at Goodison Park. It was a controlled performance from Pep Guardiola’s side before they upped the ante in the game’s closing stages to pick up a vital three points. The win also saw City stretch their unbeaten run to six matches. But coming out of the game two quotes from Pep Guardiola and Ilkay Gundogan give the impression that Manchester City have turned a corner after a tough 24/25 season.
Speaking after his team’s win, Pep Guardiola said that his team have endured a tough period but stability has returned to their play. He explained: “We have had a tough period, especially with injuries, but now we are more or less stable.”
Ilkay Gundogan believes that Manchester City are playing at a different level than they were earlier this season. He believes that the City squad has returned in good shape since the March international break. In an interview published on mancity.com, he explained: “I feel like already now, especially since we came back after the March international break, we’re playing on a different level and different standards. You can feel it as a player on the pitch. In the training sessions. I think the manager feels it, and the supporters feel it.”
Manchester City are now on a six-game unbeaten run after their victory over Everton yesterday. But more important than that they do appear to have turned a corner after a tough 24/25 season. But they are beginning to resemble themselves in the way they’re controlling matches. That is a positive that has emerged in recent weeks. If it can carry through the remainder of this season it will set them up to achieve their goals in what has been a disappointing season.
