Spurs set for huge window ahead of return to Champions League
It is a crucial summer for Tottenham as they prepare for a return to the Champions League.
Ange Postecoglou’s own future has been the big talking point but regardless of who is in the dugout next season, the squad must be better-equipped to compete on multiple fronts, even if injury problems reappear.
The focus in recent windows has been on recruiting young. However, with Champions League football secured, balancing that with those who have played at the top level is essential.
Tottenham’s midfield needs particular attention this summer.
Yves Bissouma has struggled for consistency and is out of contract next summer, while the likes of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray have huge potential but still need time to develop.

A top-class ball-winner at the base of midfield, preferably with Champions League experience, would bring some much-needed control.
There is an argument a more creative player to provide competition for James Maddison is also needed, particularly with Dejan Kulusevski out for “at least a few months” after knee surgery.
Maddison has had injury issues himself and Spurs cannot risk leaving themselves short in that position again.
There is no lack of pace in wide areas for Spurs but more regular output is required.
Brennan Johnson remains unconvincing, while Wilson Odobert has been hampered by injuries and Heung-min Son is no longer a guaranteed starter.
A decision must be made on whether to sign Mathys Tel permanently, but a new winger feels necessary regardless.
With Cristian Romero strongly linked with a move to Spain, a new centre-back could also become essential.
Postecoglou has described the 27-year-old as a “winner”, and that mentality and experience at the top level would have to be replaced.
Kevin Danso’s move has been made permanent and Luka Vuskovic will finally arrive this summer.
Marc Guehi appears likely to leave Crystal Palace this summer and would be an ideal signing, though Spurs will face competition from Newcastle. AC Milan’s FIkayo Tomori is also an option.
His team-mate Eberechi Eze has long been of interest to Spurs and could play either on the left or in midfield.

Angel Gomes is available on a free transfer as a cheaper midfield option, while Spurs will be hoping Southampton’s relegation helps a deal for winger Tyler Dibling become more realistic. Leroy Sane could soon be a free agent.
Fraser Forster, Sergio Reguilon and Alfie Whiteman have all left and Timo Werner has returned to Leipzig.
Manor Solomon and Bryan Gil will be back at Spurs this summer after their loan spells but both will likely be moved on again.
Atletico Madrid remain keen to sign Romero. Postecoglou has urged Spurs not to sell him but he has only two years left on his contract and now might be the time to cash in.
Bissouma could well be on the move and speculation continues over Richarlison’s future, after there was interest from Saudi Arabia last summer.
