The two ‘untouchables’ in Barcelona’s midfield for 2025/26 | OneFootball

Two members of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona are considered all but ‘untouchable’ when it comes to their place in Hansi Flick’s XI for the season ahead.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Pedri and Frenkie de Jong as the pair in question.

Pedri and De Jong are of course fresh off striking up a brilliant engine room partnership in Catalunya’s capital this past season.

After the latter returned from a long-term injury to reestablish himself as first-choice in the thick of the campaign, Pedri and De Jong provided the perfect platform for Barcelona’s more advanced stars to work their magic in the final third.

Dribbling, passing, relentless work rate and more, the duo combined for the perfect midfield balance.

In turn, it should not come as a major surprise to hear that, heading into the 2025/26 term, Pedri and De Jong are considered guaranteed starters in boss Flick’s XI.

As per a report from Sport:

‘Barça have an overcrowded midfield with two clear untouchables: De Jong and Pedri. From there, Flick will have to choose between Dani Olmo, Gavi, Fermín, Casadó and Marc Bernal.’
