Barcelona star tested in new position during FC Seoul clash | OneFootball

A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona was this evening tested in a new role.

The player in question? Gerard Martín.

Barcelona are of course currently locked in action. In the 2nd outing of the club’s pre-season tour of Asia, the Blaugrana have made the trip to South Korea, for a friendly meeting with FC Seoul.

After his side headed in at the interval boasting a slender advantage following a back-and-forth first-half, Hansi Flick opted to completely change his XI, introducing an entire new group of players.

Amongst those thrown on, meanwhile, was the aforementioned Gerard Martín.

With youngster Jofre Torrents having taken his place at left-back, however, Martín was forced into a new-look role.

The 23-year-old joined Andreas Christensen at the heart of defence, a position in which Martín was utilised on occasion at youth level in Catalunya’s capital.

It now remains to be seen if the Spaniard can do enough to convince Hansi Flick and his staff of his readiness to act as a rotation option at centre-back this coming season.
