Kyle Walker has joined Burnley from Manchester City in a surprise summer transfer.
The right-back has signed a two-year deal with the Lancashire outfit and will reunite with his former Tottenham Hotspur and England teammate, Clarets manager Scott Parker.
The move could earn Man City £5 million if all performance-related conditions are met. Sky Sports News also claim it could save them £10m in salary on the remaining year of Walker‘s contract.
Burnley announced the transfer with a typically brilliant reveal on social media, featuring a Lionel Richie head sculpture. Because of course it does.
“I’m delighted to be here,” said Walker upon switching Premier League clubs.
“When I spoke to Scott and heard about his plans for next season, it was an opportunity I jumped at. He’s done an amazing job here, guiding the Club back to the Premier League with a 100-point haul, and now we’re looking forward, together, at being back in the greatest league in the world.
“Burnley had a tremendous campaign last season, built on an incredible defensive record, and I can’t wait to come in and add my experience and quality to what looks an exciting squad.”
The 35-year-old was sent on loan to AC Milan for the second half of last season, making 16 appearances in all competitions, but the Serie A side did not take up the option to make the move permanent.
Following his transfer from Spurs in 2017, Walker played 319 times for Man City, winning six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.
