32-year-old local lad returns to FC Red Bull Salzburg

After six years in the German Bundesliga, Stefan Lainer is back at FC Red Bull Salzburg. The 32-year-old full-back is returning from Borussia Mönchengladbach to the Red Bulls and has signed a contract running until 30 June 2027.

Returning with bags of experience

Stefan Lainer made a total of 162 appearances for Borussia Mönchengladbach during his time in Germany. The Salzburg Way, which led him from the Red Bull Football Academy to FC Liefering and via the Red Bulls to the German Bundesliga, has now taken him home.

The player capped 39 times for Austria has made many appearances in the UEFA Champions League (eight), UEFA Champions League qualifying (12) and the UEFA Europa League (35). He will take the 22 shirt number again in Salzburg and help us in our preparations for the FIFA Club World Cup.

He will be one of our key players, who will drive us on the pitch and in the dressing room.
