Idrissa Gueye could be on his way back to Ligue 1, with his contract at Everton set to expire in the coming days and no extension in place. The midfielder returned to the Premier League club in 2022 after a four-year stint with Paris Saint-Germain.
During his time in the French capital, Gueye made 111 appearances, scored seven goals, and tallied six assists. He also collected plenty of silverware, winning two Ligue 1 titles, two Coupe de France trophies, one Coupe de la Ligue, and two Trophée des Champions.
Gueye was also part of the PSG squad that reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2020, ultimately falling to Bayern Munich.

On Tuesday, Foot Mercato reported that Stade Rennais is targeting experienced reinforcements and has set its sights on Gueye.
His profile and leadership qualities are desirable to Habib Beye, who sees the veteran with 121 international caps as an ideal mentor for the club’s younger players. However, any move would depend on convincing the midfielder—and on Everton deciding not to extend his contract.
After PSG eliminated Liverpool from the Champions League Round of 16, the midfielder added “merci” to the video, thanking his former teammate for adding misery to the Toffees’ rival. It will be interesting to see if the veteran stays with Everton or returns to Ligue 1.
