According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have reportedly held talks to sign a new centre back from the Bundesliga this summer.
Chelsea beat Benfica in the first set of knockout rounds in the Club World Cup on Saturday night, but it was far from easy and also, very far from drama!
Enzo Maresca labelled it a joke that the game got suspended for two hours due to sever weather conditions and slammed the tournament location as a result, and he really does have a point here.
And then came a flurry of late goal with Benfica equalising deep into stoppage time through a penalty to send it into extra time. Chelsea then bagged a bunch of goals to go on and win the game before it got to penalties!
Despite him not being announced yet by either Dortmund or Chelsea, Jamie Gittens joining The Blues is a deal that is now done and dusted!
There is nothing to panic about there, and Chelsea continue to work on more new signings as well as outgoings this summer window.
But there is a catch – it looks like he would be for sister club Strasbourg rather than Chelsea.
Sky Sports report that Chelsea have held talks about signing Borussia Dortmund’s 21-year-old centre-back Soumaila Coulibaly with a view to him playing for Strasbourg.
I mean, Chelsea have also been linked with potential new centre backs themselves this summer as well, so we’d expect and hope to be hearing something on that now very soon.
But it’s good to see that they are looking to strengthen Strasbourg again this summer as well ahead of the new season.
