RB Leipzig are considering making a move for Danny Rohl to become their next boss and are stepping up interest in the German.

Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig are stepping up their efforts to appoint a new manager, with Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl now considered a real option by their hierarchy.

According to German newspaper Bild (via Sport Witness), Leipzig have a number of candidates they wish to approach about the position, but have been left impressed with the way Rohl has overcome adversity with the Owls, dealing with financial struggles to have the Yorkshire club fighting towards the play-offs this term.

With Southampton’s relegation back down to the Championship at the end of last weekend confirmed, the Saints are also eyeing up Rohl as the permanent replacement for Ivan Juric, while Leicester City have gone backwards under Ruud van Nistelrooy and will certainly be looking for a new manager once their place in the second tier is also confirmed.

Rohl has also been touted for a move to the King Power Stadium, but the latest update coming out of Germany indicates RB Leipzig could be rivalling the English duo for his signature.

According to German publication Bild (via Sport Witness), RB Leipzig have been drafting up a list of candidates for the manager position, with Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner and Brighton’s Fabian Hurzeler both believed to being considered.

However, it has now been revealed that Danny Rohl has entered their thinking, with the former Southampton assistant coach not originally being considered, but now being “discussed internally” as a real option.

Earlier in the process, the German outfit didn’t believe Rohl had enough experience for the role, but their stance is quickly changing.

Rohl is rumoured to be on a shortlist that includes Crystal Palace’s Glasner, as well as Al-Ahli manager Mattias Jaissle and free agent Roger Schmidt, whose last job came at Benfica back in 2024.

Despite Leicester and Southampton both offering Danny Rohl appealing gateways to eventually becoming a Premier League coach, the lure of a return to the Bundesliga is something the 35-year-old could be very keen on.

A return to his native country with a club the size of Leipzig could be just what Rohl needs, with Die Roten Bullen currently occupying fifth place in the Bundesliga and well on their way to securing European football next season.

Offering a glorious chance to make a name for himself back in his homeland, this could be an opportunity Rohl will grab with both hands, and Leicester and Southampton will have to act quickly to prevent this situation from escalating.
