2 Sheffield Wednesday plays who could follow Danny Rohl to his next destination.
Danny Rohl looks set to leave Sheffield Wednesday in the near future, with both Southampton and Leicester City keeping an eye on the popular manager's situation.
The German performed a miracle with the Owls to maintain their Championship status last season, before solidifying that with what could be a decent mid-table finish this campaign.
With plenty of off-the-pitch distractions to deal with, the latest of which includes Dejphon Chansiri failing to pay his players and staff on time, it wouldn't be a shock to see the 35-year-old depart Hillsborough in the coming months.
Relegated Southampton and almost relegated Leicester have both been reportedly interested in prizing Rohl away from Wednesday. The Owls boss has a £4m release clause in his contract, but the fee for Championship clubs to trigger that is just £2m, hence the wait from both parties.
As Rohl seemingly edges closer towards the door at Sheffield Wednesday, we decided to take a look at two members of his current squad that he could potentially take with him to his next destination.
Looking through the Sheffield Wednesday squad, it would be impossible to gloss over Djeidi Gassama as someone that Rohl would potentially be keen on bringing with him to his next destination.
The winger arrived in Yorkshire in the summer of 2023, with an impressive CV in French youth football and a senior appearance for Paris Saint-Germain to his name. Since then, he's slowly adapted to life in England and played some of his best football under Rohl.
With both Leicester and Southampton pretty much nailed on to be in the Championship next season, the 21-year-old would be an excellent signing for both clubs. He ranks highly in key attacking stats and will have two full seasons' worth of experience in the second tier by the summer.
Gassama certainly has a high ceiling as well, being just 21. If the German manager brings the Frenchman to his next club, he can help him continue that growth he's shown at Hillsborough during his time with the club.
Sheffield Wednesday have two very talented young goalkeepers on their hands in James Beadle and Pierce Charles. The former doesn't belong to the Owls, and has recently found himself out of the squad in favour of the latter.
The teenager has been subject to plenty of interest from Premier League clubs throughout the season, with his breakthrough into the Wednesday and Northern Ireland first team turning even more heads.
If Rohl were to join either the Saints or the Foxes, it wouldn't be surprising to see him attempt to bring the young shot-stopper with him. This may be a move that Charles himself is keen on, as he'd be working with the man who handed him his full Championship debut again, knowing that he'll be afforded chances.
This deal could be more likely if the 35-year-old joins Southampton, as Pierce's brother and current Wednesday loanee Shea Charles belongs to the Saints, which means the brothers could be reunited with their old gaffer at St Mary's.
